This exhibition was curated for San Telmo Museum in San Sebastian and deepens the study and knowledge of the Gabriela Cendoya Bergareche Photobook Collection through its analysis from the fields of cinema, music and literature.

This collection is made up of more than 3,000 copies and is deposited in the Library of the San Telmo Museum, open to the public for study. It is one of the most important international collections of this genre, not only because of its size, but also because of the quality of the selected titles, many of which are impossible to find today and which are the result of the personal and professional relationships that Gabriela has established with the creators that make it up.

A photobook is more than a book made up of photographs. It is an artistic object where the images lose their autonomous character to become structured in a sequence of contents, with a narrative intention and a unique visual rhythm that builds a singular and unrepeatable creative discourse in a different format. The growing interest in the photobook, understood as an artistic work in itself, is undergoing a significant expansion, backed by the numerous national and international events dedicated to its analysis and significance. In this context, digitisation and accessibility to the means of production have had an expansive effect on the publication of new titles. More titles than ever are produced, read and collected, and today the photobook constitutes a singular, contemporary and immediate artistic genre.

As a result of this effervescence, the project 3x4=ORAIN. Cinema, music and literature in the photobook deepens the study and knowledge of the Gabriela Cendoya Bergareche Collection through its analysis from the fields of cinema, music and literature, three disciplines that maintain a deep link with these editions.

Esta exposición fue comisariada para el Museo San Telmo de San Sebastian y profundiza en el estudio y conocimiento de la Colección Gabriela Cendoya Bergareche mediante su análisis desde el ámbito del cine, la música y la literatura.

Dicha colección se compone de más de 3.000 ejemplares y se encuentra depositada en la Biblioteca del Museo San Telmo, abierta al público para su estudio. Se trata de una de las colecciones internacionales más relevantes de este género, no solo por su volumen, sino por la calidad de los títulos seleccionados, muchos de ellos hoy imposibles de encontrar y que son fruto de las relaciones personales y profesionales que Gabriela ha establecido con los y las creadoras que la conforman.

El fotolibro es más que un libro compuesto de fotografías, es un objeto artístico donde las imágenes pierden su carácter autónomo para estructurarse en una secuencia de contenidos, con una intención narrativa y un ritmo visual único que construye un discurso creativo singular e irrepetible en otro formato. El creciente interés por el fotolibro, entendido como obra artística en sí misma, está viviendo una importante expansión, avalada por los numerosos eventos nacionales e internacionales dedicados a su análisis y significación. En ese contexto, la digitalización y la accesibilidad a los medios de producción han tenido un efecto expansivo en la edición de nuevos títulos. Se producen, se leen y se coleccionan más títulos que nunca y el fotolibro constituye hoy un género artístico singular, contemporáneo e inmediato.

Fruto de esta efervescencia, el proyecto 3x4=ORAIN. Cine, música y literatura en el fotolibro, profundiza en el estudio y conocimiento de la Colección Gabriela Cendoya Bergareche mediante su análisis desde el ámbito del cine, la música y la literatura, tres disciplinas que mantienen un profundo vínculo con estas ediciones.
